To establish a national progressive structure, overcoming contemporary colonialism and exploitation may seem nearly impossible. However, the foundation of this endeavour lies in nationalism and patriotism. In Afghanistan, numerous attempts have been made to break free from the ruling colonial powers. Unfortunately, instead of ending colonialism, each government has contributed to new forms of domination over the land and its people.
Putting an end to the existing colonial control, indeed, presents a viable path forward. The Afghan nation, alongside its rulers, has endured various forms of colonialism, ranging from feudal to imitative and societal. While different regimes have come and gone, they have merely shifted the balance of colonialism, leaving Afghanistan far from prosperity and sovereignty. The establishment of patriotism and nationalism brings us closer to the dream cherished by every Afghan for years: hope and aspiration.
To foster genuine national unity, we must bridge the gap between ethnicity and nationality. 'Ethnicity' and 'nationality' represent two contrasting concepts, each with its own distinct definition and significance.
The fundamental difference between ethnicity and nationalism lies in their impact. Ethnicity fosters linguistic and ethnic biases, while patriotism unites individuals from diverse backgrounds under the banner of national interests. It promotes national values, unity, and independence, all of which are key components of a strong nation.
Patriotism, as a political ideology, asserts national superiority and emphasises national identity. It encourages people to embrace their cultural and moral values, fostering loyalty to their nation. Politically, patriotism safeguards a nation's interests in its dealings with the state, ensuring that the state serves the nation's welfare rather than betraying its values. Thus, the establishment of a national progressive structure may seem daunting in the face of contemporary colonialism and exploitation. Nevertheless, it all begins with nurturing nationalism and patriotism and empowering the youth with national knowledge.
